While Australian Independent Comedy Rock Musician, Cameron Hons has been making music now for over 20 years, he has also been enjoying an occasional spot as a Instrumental Rock performer too. Cameron is a big fan of Instrumental rock music, and is inspired by artists such as Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, etc.
Cameron's first Instrumental rock album was released back in April 2019. Entitled 'Unusual Suspects' it was a dramatic change from Cameron's regular comedy rock insanity that his fans are most used to. His listeners enjoyed the different experience, that featured improvised tracks based on rock, fusion, blues, and experimental genres.
"Unusual Suspects was a game changer", says Cameron. "I also started getting new listeners from these Instrumental Rock albums." So far, he has made 9. His most recent one is called "Strange Highways" and features 10 great tracks.
These tracks are all very excellent, but one track notably is the first, which is a highly improvised version of the classic Inspector Gadget theme song, based on the classic TV show. Cameron explains, "I've always been a fan of the Inspector Gadget cartoon (& movies). The theme song especially is so iconic and fun to sing along to. When I decided to cover it for this album, I played it entirely from memory. It was fully improvised. It turned into this really cool groove-shuffle version that I really liked. The bass line may have given me a blister on my finger, but I still had fun!"
Cameron has also covered several other songs on his past Instrumental albums, such as the Peter Gunn theme.
Strange Highways features a wide array of rock, experimental, blues, fusion electronic and hard styles of music on each track.
