Australian Comedy Rock musician Cameron Hons has just released a brand new album "In The Mood" - his 49th solo record overall, while just coming off his 20th anniversary of original music last year in 2024. There surely was a lot of special events to celebrate this milestone. From limited edition compilation albums, an exclusive "Greatest Hits" 20th Anniversary Edition CD, limited edition merchandise such as T-Shirts, posters, etc. During the first half of 2025, Cameron had already been quietly working hard on the next record. The independent musician from Sydney, Australia is pleased to announce his latest effort, "In The Mood" - a heavily oriented blues & rock record, featuring 10 brand new original tracks.
"I had a lot of fun making this album" says Cameron, "But I recorded it during Summer time. Here in Australia, Summer time in January and February can get quite brutal. My guitars would often go out of tune quick and the sweat from my hands would make it difficult to play drums. I did get annoyed about it a lot. Some days I just couldn't record or play anything because it was too hot. In the end, I said 'stuff it' and kept on going. The result was this great album."
"In The Mood" has 10 brand new original tracks. From the immensely groovy and classic sounding blues rock title song, to Irish-jig like sounding "More Important Things In Life" which is about the problems at Sydney Trains who always go on strike, aim taken at the RTBU specifically who have recently lost public support in the country. "I listen to Status Quo a lot and sometimes they like to incorporate inspired 'Irish Jigs' in songs such as 'Burning Bridges (Off & On Again)", 'Hold Ya Back" , etc amongst others. I guess I was inspired by songs like that for this track."
"Nothing I Can Do About That" - a song about jealous and highly cynical people who envy Cameron's music and the fun he has, yes some of these people exist would you believe it. But there's nothing he can do about it. Next is a real quirky and energetic pop number called "Learn From Your Mistakes" , one that you could almost pass off as Children's Music if it wasn't for the F-Bomb!, as well with an almost Jethro Tull inspired flute solo in the 2nd half, the epic "Why Did Gerbilsoft Hack Me Today" - "My Discord account suddenly got hacked a couple of days ago while I was recording this album and it inspired me to make this track. We all had a laugh about it for a while, it wasn't anything serious but they just posted spam for a bit until I kicked them off and fixed it up."
"E-Scooters" is a very whimsical take on the nation's obsession & problems with E-Scooters. "Elitism Blues" is a heavy blues rock song about Elitism in the Sonic The Hedgehog online community and how bad it is. Sonic Retro for example are highly elitist. "Palm Tree Problems" is an electronic track about how Palm Trees can be a problem in the local sub-tropical suburbia where they don't belong.
There is also a renewed call to "Release Coyote VS Acme", for the track of the same title. The Looney Tunes film (which currently remains in limbo) is still shelved by Warner Bros, but they say it's available for acquisition. So far no potential buyer has come forward to take the asking price seriously yet. But many people still want to release the movie. Cameron is a huge Looney Tunes fan and has been very vocal during the #ReleaseCoyoteVsAcme campaign online. Now he made a song about it.
Last but not least is the album closing track "Everybody's Turning Into Conspiracists", in a society where the rise of misinformation, social media and unmoderated content is becoming more popular than ever before.
Cameron Hons' latest album 'In The Mood' is a fantastic and enjoyable listen. It features Cameron on all the instruments and vocals. You can get it now on CD or Digital via Bandcamp.Listen to it today!
