I'm Kind Of Disappointed With The Switch 2 Announcement

The new Nintendo console, Nintendo Switch 2 got revealed today, It has been leaked into infinity by Nintendo Insiders who are probably going to get fired if they are caught. Understandably, Nintendo are pretty mad about all of the leaks being shared on the internet. But still, the new showcase today left me feeling very underwhelmed

Apparently, the Nintendo Switch 2 may not be the 4k upgraded hardware that we've all been asking for, if the rumors are true. Though it has a slightly sleeker design and slightly larger size, and different Joy Cons with a slightly different C-button, we'll have to wait until April 2 for Nintendo's Direct presentation on the console for official news.
Back in 2017 when the Switch was first revealed, the console reveal felt very exciting and new. However the reveal video for Switch 2 didn't feel that exciting at all.

We have only 1 game confirmed at launch, which is a new Mario Kart game. So that's cool I guess.

Out with the old...In with the...old

For those that were hoping for a brand new console experience feel free to be disappointed with the Switch 2. It still runs on cartridges, still has joycons, and still has pretty much a similar set up that the original Switch had. If rumors are believed to be true, the console will run on Xbox 360/PS4 gen graphics and hardware. Nintendo have known to be stuck in the past for a bit too long when it comes to releasing new consoles on standard 1080p HD screens when pretty much every other console these days is 4K compatible. Despite the rumors, it's still unknown if the Switch 2 is readily 4K compatible. We'll have to find out on April 2.

Also, like it or not, looks like the Switch console will still be around for the next decade or so. After the Switch 1's success. Nintendo don't seem to be ready to move on just yet. I'll be interested to see what Nintendo have planned. The Switch 2 will have exclusive games. But what bothers me about it is the need for backwards compatibility. What is the point when pretty much everyone has a Switch and they could just play new games on Switch 2. Unless if Switch 2 has some sort of cloud gaming set up ?

I don't know how i'd feel about rolling my Joycons around on the floor like a mouse for certain games. Unless if that gives them an opportunity to make a brand new Mario Paint game, then i'm all for it. But I never liked the Joycons and don't even use them. I use external Pro controllers for my Switch games.

Currently there is also no news of pricing or any other launch games. I hope the presentation on April 2 will convince me to change my mind about the console. Hopefully they improve the UI, Switch Eshop which seemingly felt abandoned on the original Switch, and add other features.

Plus, the name of the console is stupid. I thought Switch 2 was just a code name. But it's a real name. So that's why i'm getting Krusty Krab 2 vibes from the first Songebob movie.

I'm not trading my Switch Oled any time soon.

Switch 2 launches sometime in the end of 2025.
