Andy Scott, longtime guitarist & founding member of the iconic British rock band "The Sweet" - who have songs such as "Ballroom Blitz", "Love Is Like Oxygen", "Action", "Blockbuster", "Hellraiser", etc, has announced yesterday he will be unfortunately missing the upcoming Australian tour which is due to take place in early-November this year. Andy came down with an unspecified illness that he had to leave by the end of a concert in Hamburg a couple of weeks ago. Fan-filmed footage of the Hamburg concert shows a very unwell looking Andy Scott struggling to finish the show and then disappears from the stage. The band, while performing, keep an eye out for him and look very concerned. When he left the stage , they brought in a fill in guitarist to help finish the show.
The Sweet performing in Hamburg in September 2024On a post in the past 24 hours on their official Facebook page, Andy shared
"First off - I am gutted not to be with the band on our Australian Tour. The band feel the same and we kept the door ajar in the hope that a miracle would allow me to travel and perform. That is now not possible.
When I woke up in a German hotel in excruciating pain unable to walk I thought that this was the end, and until a few days ago when the cause of my illness was revealed my world was in turmoil. Now there is light at the end of the tunnel but it is going to take a long time of healing and recuperation. The band, Paul, Lee, Tom, Adam and new guy Randall are ready to deliver a great show and as they say “The show must go on”. I am one fifth of the band on stage and out of respect for them and you the audience and all of the background personnel involved in making this tour happen, I am proud to give my approval. So I guess this Farewell tour may actually be part one with part two in the future when I am fixed.
Australia - Sweet thank you and I thank you for your ongoing support."
The Sweet also just released their newest, and probably final album called "Full Circle" - which is a great record that does feature Andy Scott.
