The new DLC for the upcoming Sonic X Shadow Generations has been announced, which features Movie Shadow in the game voiced by none other than Keanu Reeves, who voices Shadow in the upcoming film, Sonic The Hedgehog 3, due this December holidays. The DLC is set in the real world setting of Tokyo. It being the first Sonic game / DLC set in a real world setting for the first time since 2001's Sonic Adventure 2 which was loosely set in San Francisco.
Keen eyed Sonic fan and Emerald Rangers writer Cameron Hons has recently discovered a hidden background reference that a lot of people seemed to miss. In one screenshot we see Shadow looking around some buildings. One of the buildings is the 'Mean Bean Machine' coffee shop from the films, which is run by Robotnik's beloved assistant, Agent Stone. But in the background there is a building billboard that clearly says "ROUGE" which is a reference to Rouge The Bat, a character which was introduced in Sonic Adventure 2. Rouge is a jewel theif who is often trying to steal the master emerald from Knuckles.
It doesn't mean that Rouge the Bat is confirmed to make an appearance in Sonic 3 as it only seems to be a reference for now, but it is very interesting. Would the ROUGE store be featured in the film somehow? Would it be a jewellery store? Run by Rouge? Or just a simple background reference? Sonic movies are known to twist certain characters roles sometimes in new ways so we will just have to wait and see.
Sonic X Shadow Generations arrives on PS4/5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch and PC in October 25 2024
