Yakuza Kiwami [ps4] reveiw

    Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the PlayStation 2 classic Yakuza, in which you play as Kazama Kiryu as he fights with many enemies ranging from Yakuza to the Japanese police force. This game is held together by a gripping story, and a beautiful combat system. (note: I haven't played the first yakuza game, so this review isn't a comparison]

-STORY

    After his childhood friend. Akira Nishikiyama. kills a clan patriarch for getting touchy feely with his friend Yumi Sawamura, the main character Kazama Kiryu takes the blame. He gets 10 years in prison, and while doing his time learns that he was kicked from the Tojo Clan and the disappearance of Yumi. A lot had changed in the ten years Kiryu was in prison, Nishikiyama had become a higher up in the Tojo Clan, and there was 10 billion yen missing from the Tojo Clan as well. Everyone wanted the 10 billion for themselves.

    While looking for Yumi, Kiryu finds a 9 year old girl named Haruka who was looking for her mom and her "aunt" Yumi. Everyone tried to take Haruka as they believed she was the key to the ten billion. We find out later on that Yumi is Haruka's mom. Along the way, Kiryu meets a cop named Makoto Date as they both try to figure out how to find Yumi and protect Haruka.

 
    It turned out a politician named Kyohei Jingu had connections to the ten billion and Yumi. Yumi had been the one who took the money to keep it away from her ex-husband (as when the clan patriarch died she had amnesia due to trauma) as she new he was a bad guy. Jingu came back but Yumi threatened to blow up the 10 billion yen, and Kiryu revealed that according to the third char-mans will,  Kiryu would be the forth chair-man of the Tojo clan, Nishikiyama shows up and Kiryu and him fight, with Kiryu winning, while Jingu gets the jump and kills Yumi. Nishikiyama then kills him and Jingu, while blowing up the ten billion yen. 

    The game ends with Kiryu handing chairmanship over to an old friend and deciding to take care of Haruka.

-GAMEPLAY

    The Yakuza franchise is a beat 'em up style game with many play styles through the series in an open world with plenty of side quests/optional objectives to keep you busy. Yakuza Kiwami uses the Yakuza 0 style of battle. There are 4 fighting styles held inside this combat system, each of them have "heat moves" which are moves that do massive damage.

-Rush

    The fastest of all fighting styles, but the least powerful. It has the least heat moves.

-Beast

    The slowest, yet most powerful of the 4 styles.

-Brawler

    The best style, but when you get late game its bloated out by:

-DRAGON

    The coolest thing ever 50% of the time, the other 50% is taken from Brawler.

-CONCLUSION

    I found a new series to play through, and will right reviews on. I love this game (I've played kiwami 2 and prefer it, be hyped for next month) so it gets an 9/10.
