I still stand by my initial Steam review of this game:
“There is no storm of spears in this game, nor does the character on the banner art and title screen appear in the game anywhere.”
Mechanically, it’s a run of the mill RPG Maker game. Much of the graphical content is appears to be reused from other games. The text boxes that appear during in-game dialog is inescapably recognizable as RPG Maker style text.
In combat, player sprites can be seen attacking the enemy, which is a small detail, but its something not every RPG Maker game does. Another positive is that battles are initiated by colliding with sprites on a map screen much more akin to Chrono Trigger's encounter style rather than Dragon Warriors abrupt random battle style.
For those of you who are wondering, there is no...
...nudity in the game. It’s chock full of mediocre doujin artwork, but consider this a run-of-the-mill PG level RPG Maker game and not an adult title. This clarification is important considering the artwork on the banner used to sell the game and the fact that the store page has this erroneously user tagged with “Nudity”.
Storm of Spears retails for 1.99 regular price with the lowest price recorded of .49. This is a price point that gets hit regularly during Steam sales.
I played all the way through this back in 2017. According to Steam, it took me about 4.5 hours. Although a good part of that time was spent just goofing around in game with friends around. The store page boasts 3+ hours of optional side quests, but my interest could not be held long enough to explore them all.
My opinion of commercially sold RPG Maker games is typically pretty low, but this one is confirmed as playable. It’s a bargain game for sure, but it doesn’t over stay its welcome and at the very least, you get exactly what you would expect from a cheap RPG Maker game on Steam.
4/10
Games I have reviewed for Emerald Rangers in order of best to worst:
Fatal Labyrinth
Nimbatus: The Space Drone Constructor
Treasure Hunter Simulator
Storm of Spears
∀kashicforce
Echo Royale
