After a decade of service, starting with the Black and White games in 2010, the Pokemon Global Link will be shutting down February 24, 2020.
This will effect rating battles, online competitions as well as being able to see previous trades using PGL in the last 3DS Pokemon titles. However, not all of the all online services will end. SuMo and USuUMo players will still be able to battle and trade with one another other individually, use Wonder Trades, and GTS, similarly to how services were shut down for X/Y and ORAS when SuMo launched.
The last main stream Pokemon title to come to the handheld platform was the Ultra editions of Pokemon Sun and Moon respectively in 2017.
To mark the closure, players can receive Fennel's Munna if you log into your PGL account before the service is shut down on February 24, 2020. This Munna is a reference to when PGL first went live to support Pokemon Black and White's Pokemon Dream World. Dr. Fennel was a character accompanied by a Munna for that online component.
